RIP Kamogelo: Young Woman Killed Despite Having a Protection Order
Kamogelo Eunice Boikanyo, from Koster in the North West, was allegedly stabbed multiple times on 2 February 2026 in an attack reportedly carried out by her former boyfriend. According to reports, the suspect allegedly struggled to accept that the relationship had ended.
What has deeply shaken the community is that Kamogelo had already taken steps to protect herself. She had reportedly obtained a protection order against the suspect before the incident. Sadly, the order did not prevent the tragic outcome.
Emergency responders were called to the scene, but Kamogelo was declared dead on arrival.
Police say the suspect allegedly attempted to harm himself after the attack. He survived and is currently in police custody, where he is expected to face serious charges as the investigation continues.
The community of Koster has been left devastated, with many people sharing tributes and memories of Kamogelo, describing her as a kind and vibrant young woman with her whole future ahead of her.
Advocacy groups and community leaders say the tragedy highlights ongoing concerns about gender-based violence and the effectiveness of protection measures. Many are calling for stronger systems to ensure that people who obtain protection orders are able to receive real and immediate safety.
Cases like this continue to spark urgent conversations across South Africa about how to better protect those at risk and prevent violence before it happens.
As the legal process moves forward, friends, family members, and community members continue to remember Kamogelo and call for justice. Never allow a relationship to get to a bad stage before leaving it.
